What Is FTTB

- Jul 03, 2020-

FTTB, or Fiber to The Building, uses digital broadband technology to connect the fiber directly to the cell, and then to each user through twisted pair (cat 5 twisted 4 pair or 4 pairs of unshielded twisted pair) .

Basic Information

Fast speed, large capacity and low price
Full nameFiber To The Buildingadvantage
Dedicated line access without dialing
It is a network connection mode of FTTX+LAN
Downlink rate is 10Mbps

FTTB (Fiber To The Building): It is a network connection mode of FTTX+LAN. It mainly connects the optical signal into the main distribution box of the office building or apartment building to realize the access of the optical fiber signal. The interior of the apartment building is still using coaxial cable, twisted pair or optical fiber to realize the signal distribution input to realize the application of high-speed data. We call the Broadband Access Network (FTTB) for FTTX+LAN, which is the most reasonable, practical, and cost-effective broadband access method.

Fast speed: fiber to the building, network cable to the home, and the user's upstream and downstream speeds can reach 10Mbps.

Large capacity: Each household can exclusively enjoy two-way balanced 10M bandwidth.

Low price: Because of its uniqueness and high-speed Internet access rate, it requires a large amount of engineering, but it can benefit consumers.

Wide application: including high-speed Internet access, VOD video on demand, home office (SOHO), distance education, video conferencing, remote office (ROBO), telemedicine and Internet interconnection.

FTTB uses dedicated line access, no dial-up (China Telecom flying young is called fiber-to-the-home, client is required, dial-up is required), and the installation is simple. The client only needs to install a network card on the computer for 24-hour high-speed Internet access. FTTB provides the highest uplink and downlink rate of 10Mbps (exclusive).

And based on the IP speed limit, the delay will not increase even when running across the broadband.

The advantages of FTTB as a high-speed Internet access method are obvious, but the shortcomings we should also see are that ISPs must invest a lot of money to lay high-speed networks in each user’s home, so it greatly limits the promotion and application of FTTB. Most netizens can afford to do a lot of work.

What is the difference between folding and ISDN
FTTB and ISDN are both more promising access methods. Both of them can carry out integrated communication of voice, data, and image at the same point in the application, but the rate of FTTB is much higher than that of ISDN. ISDN provides a 2B+D data channel with a maximum rate of 128KbpS, while both the upstream and downstream rates of FTTB can reach 10Mbps.

What is the difference between folding and DDN
FTTB provides 10M bandwidth data transmission. Compared with DDN's narrowband data transmission (64K-2M), it can better meet users' bandwidth requirements. At the same time, FTTB costs are much cheaper than DDN.

How does the Internet speed of folding and HFC compare?
FTTB uses fiber-to-building and network cable-to-home access to provide fixed and exclusive bandwidth for each user. The virtual local area network is subdivided into buildings and has strong security. The HFC network structure is tree-shaped. Cable Modem The upstream 10M downlink 38M channel bandwidth is shared by users in the entire community. Once the number of users increases, the bandwidth allocated by each user will drop sharply, and the fatal flaw of the shared network topology is its security (the entire community belongs to a network Paragraph), data transmission is based on the broadcast mechanism, all users in the same community can receive other people's data packets.

Can FTTB provide LAN access? Of course, FTTB itself is short for FTTX+LAN, which is more suitable for LAN access.

Why is the actual rate of FTTB not as fast as the theoretical value? This is not a problem of FTTB itself, but caused by the narrower bandwidth of the Internet's egress and the bandwidth of the information website, but compared to other access methods, FTTB can still reflect High speed advantage.

What is the difference between folding and FTTH
There is no difference between the two access methods, both are implemented by PON technology, OLT + optical splitter + ONU. FTTB is optical fiber to the corridor, and twisted pair or Category 5 cable is output from the ONU; FTTH is fiber to the home, and generally provides Category 5 cable.
